Sonus on SIP, UC and the Cloud

September 10, 2012

For a while now, Sonus has been uploading a series of “Sonus 3 in 3” videos on its YouTube channel, in which it conducts three-minute interviews with Sonus management. This week, it featured a video of Wes Durow (News - Alert), VP of Global Marketing, as he discussed SIP, unified communications, and the effect of the cloud.

According to Durow, SIP is very important for driving adoption of unified communications. SIP hasn’t been readily available until recent years, but it is the key for any unified communications tool.

As for the cloud, it’s made it possible to use the same features and access the same files across any device, turning work into an “activity” rather than “location.” Sonus allows enterprises to offer and access new services through the cloud, letting people gain access anywhere through any device.

Durow is certain the cloud’s growth will take off more than ever before in the coming years.

“The modality of communication has also changed,” said Durow. “It’s no longer just a voice call. If you think about the transition of enterprise and service provider networks, it’s very much like the personal transition we go through in terms of how we connect.”

Of course, he was also sure to talk about the company itself, and what sets Sonus apart from its competitors. Sonus is known for delivering secure, reliable and scalable infrastructure and solutions, which he attributes to four “pillars.”

"It's about scale, it's about flexibility, it's about reliability and it's about simplicity,” he said. “Those are the four things that set Sonus apart in the marketplace today."

The “3 in 3” videos from Sonus are bite-sized and helpful looks at the state of the industry from the company’s perspective. Wes Durow provided some good insight into the workings and future of Unified Communications (News - Alert) and the cloud, so it’s worth viewing for those interested.
