TMCnet Session Border Controller Week in Review

October 27, 2012

Session border controllers are vital to businesses that wish to deploy SIP-based unified communications. The session border controller space is growing quickly and there is a constant influx of news about these products. This week was no exception, with stories from Acme Packet (News - Alert), OKI and Sonus. Let’s take a look at the top stories!

This week, Acme Packet added several new salespeople to its senior team. The company, which specializes in session delivery network solutions, appointed three new members. Paul Wilson was named vice president of Sales for the Asia and Pacific region, Vin LaRocca has been named vice president of Enterprise Sales in North America, and Eric Rapisarda was hired as vice president of Enterprise Product Management and Marketing.

In other news, OKI (News - Alert) has come out with a new line of session border controllers dubbed the CenterStage NX series. These products will feature new broadband codec converters and offer a smooth service exchange between carriers, especially when dealing with long term evolution technology.

Finally, there was some big news for session border controller expert Sonus this week. First, the company has added to its successful series of “For Dummies” books, adding two titles to the line that began with Session Border Controllers for Dummies. Working alongside John Wiley & Sons (News - Alert) publishing, Sonus has created SIP Trunking for Dummies and Session Management for Dummies, which will help people who are new to these complex concepts understand them in a simple and easy-to-follow fashion.

Sonus also received accolades this week, as Gartner (News - Alert) recognized the company as a leader in the session border controller space. Gartner placed the company in the “Leaders Quadrant” in its “Magic Quadrant for Session Border Controllers” report. In the report, Gartner highlighter Sonus’ wide range of session border controllers, which runs the gamut from SBCs suited for small businesses to those designed for large enterprises.

There you have it! An exciting week in the session border controller space. Check back soon for more news and information!
