Acme Packet Introduces Net-Net 6300

Provider of session delivery network solutions, Acme Packet (News - Alert) has introduced the Net-Net 6300, stating that it’s a new standard for platforms designed to assure trusted services for the advanced interactive IP communications networks.

The company has developed the Net-Net 6300 to meet the demands of next generation services, which will be based on end-to-end IP rather than a TDM-based communications infrastructure, said Pat MeLampy, chief technology officer at Acme Packet.

 “By combining the latest advances in microprocessors and software with the familiar operations model of our proven systems, we've delivered a platform that will help our customers make a smooth transition towards the future,” MeLampy said.

Leveraging the company’s Net-Net OS software and hardware in a tightly integrated system, the newest offering delivers throughput, performance, and capacity -- all in a 3U form factor. This architecture enables the Net-Net 6300 to lower service provider capital and operational costs since it reduces power, cooling, cabling, and rack space requirements.

Company officials said that the design of Net-Net 6300 is capable of handling bandwidth-intensive services and applications. Moreover, it comes with 70 gigabits per second (Gbps) network processor and the 10 Gbps interface designed to deliver a system throughput of up to 40 Gbps.

The full 64-bit symmetrical multiprocessing capabilities and quad-core CPU design of this offering are engineered in such a way that they deliver more than twice the signaling performance of comparable SBC platforms. Company officials said that additional processors in the Net-Net 6300 accelerate TLS or IPsec-encrypted SIP session establishment.

Additionally, the Net-Net 6300 comes with session capacity of up to five times greater than comparable platforms. Company officials said that they have designed it to address the emerging services that are expected to generate high subscriber counts and call volumes in the future, including voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE), rich communication suite (RCS/RCS-e), and video calling.

Plus, it also supports high-density transcoding hardware, when available, which makes it well-equipped to handle the anticipated explosion in transcoding requirements for VoLTE, HD voice and more.

And, since the new offering leverages the same field-proven code base used by the Net-Net 4500, it carries forward and extends the functionality and operational experience offered by the Net-Net 4500, company officials said.

Earlier in August, Acme Packet announced two notable additions to its senior sales team, adding Paul Wilson as vice president for APAC sales and Vin La Rocca as vice president for North American Enterprise Sales.
