Squire's SVI Release 11 Enables Class 5 Softswitch with Inherent SBC Functionality

November 28, 2012

Squire Technologies has released a carrier-grade Class 5 Softswitch (SVI-C5) with built-in session border controller (SBC) functionality, as part of its latest software upgrade – the SVI Release 11.

The new version of SVI has enabled the standard Class 5 features, common across the industry, such as call forwarding, select call acceptance/rejection, voicemail and voice announcement.

Matt Watts, marketing manager at Squire, said the market research noted that denial of service (DOS) attacks were an increasing concern for the company’s customers, so it was a sensible move to install the class 5 softswitch with SBC functionality.

After assessing the market, the company decided to include SBC functionality within its C5 package to increase the overall security of the service. Thanks to the functions of SBC, the SVI-C5 now has comprehensive firewall security with DOS protection.

Company officials said the SVI-C5 is delivered in a dual-redundant formation, which provides carrier-grade 99.99 percent availability.

Class 5 can be deployed in a highly-available architecture.

Moreover, the combination of the Class 5 with the company’s SQL Development Kit, SVI-SDK, is also expected to benefit customers. Joe Williamson, product manager at Squire, said one of the defining features of any Class 5 softswitch is the services it provides.

“Our SDK enables the customer to rapidly create and deploy new services, which is something we've already seen put to great use by customers working with residential services in particular,” Williamson said.

The SVI-MS, the company’s management system, administers the Class 5 Softswitch. The company has developed a new Self-Care Web Portal as well, to enable users of the Class 5 to configure their services in a secure environment.

Joe said the Class 5 services are all about configuration, and the feedback the company had about the portal has been unilaterally positive in that it allows for the straightforward setup of all the services the company offers, while allowing customers to present the portal under their own branding.

Squire Technologies is a global provider of NGN, TDM and IP telecommunications products and solutions with world-class installation and support services.

Earlier this month, Asian system integrator AsiaTel selected the company’s Media Gateway Controller for one of its clients.
