ANTEL Now Offers LTE Roaming Thanks to Aicent's LTE Roaming Exchange

January 24, 2014

Aicent, a multi-service IPX network provider of mobile data network service and solutions, has entered into an agreement with ANTEL, one of Uruguay’s largest telecommunications providers, to provide LTE (News - Alert) roaming connectivity. This new LTE roaming connection, the first of its kind, connects two operators in the Caribbean and Latin American region by way of Aicent’s LTE Roaming Exchange solution.

With its new connectivity, ANTEL now has access to an extensive network of over 55 global mobile operators with LTE networks within Aicent’s LTE roaming hub.

“With the integration of Aicent’s LTE Roaming Exchange, ANTEL is able to eliminate the complexities of interconnection and interworking associated with global LTE roaming by offering a single connection point while enabling protocol interworking across multiple global mobile operators,” said Eng. Claudio Reyes, global agreements manager at ANTEL, in a statement. “Aicent’s LTE Roaming Exchange solution gave us the ability to quickly establish LTE roaming connectivity with other key operators with minimal effort and minimal cost.”

ANTEL also expanded its network back in October with the help of ZTE (News - Alert) Corporation. In that case, however, the operator was looking to enact the third phase expansion of its Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON).

As for its new LTE roaming connection, ANTEL is no able to offer its mobile subscribers uninterrupted access to a growing network of LTE operators. In particular, these subscribers will have access to a seamless and consistent LTE roaming experience when travelling between Uruguay and other global LTE networks.

Aicent’s LTE Roaming Exchange is supported by its global IPX network, which is designed to deliver 4G services — including voice, data and video — with superior quality and guaranteed security over a single connection. Furthermore, Aicent’s Diameter Routing Platforms in North America, Europe and Asia ensure interoperability and interworking between operators. This is how ANTEL was able to gain immediate access to global 4G voice and data roaming.
